The Blue•Print is developing an author-owned publishing environment where people can assemble their own accounts, publish at their own pace and plan for preservation. We welcome partners who can help make that practical and sustainable.

Our immediate priority is the initial publishing platform: a clear route from registration to a first chapter, with the supporting pages, ownership information and author tools in place.

Where collaboration can help now

Survivor and author participation

  • Review the registration and first-chapter pathway

Participation should be voluntary and leave room to pause. Helping with development does not require publishing a personal account.

The aim is a dependable initial service that can grow as authors' needs become clearer.

These arrangements need clear responsibilities, duration and costs. External preservation and posthumous publication require their own permissions.

Support should preserve editorial independence and keep authors' stories readable without being crowded out by advertising.

The publishing pathways we are supporting

A free starting space

Up to 15 chapters free for authors who meet the eligibility requirements, with a structured publication and room to begin simply.

Open Book Survivor package

Rooted in lived experience and solidarity with survivors, our Open Book Survivor package provides a free publishing space to develop a story at the author's own pace, adding chapters as the account grows.

Public readership is free. Ownership of the content remains with the author.

A shared platform, with room for your own style

All books use the same public-facing platform and standard page layout. Authors can personalise their book through the available settings for colours, fonts and other presentation details, and provide their own branding and images.

Your book's appearance

The shared layout gives each book a consistent structure for chapters, navigation and supporting pages. Your choice of the available colours, fonts, branding and images helps give your publication its own identity.

Your branding and images

You may supply your own logos, cover artwork, photographs and other suitable images. You must own those materials or have the necessary permission or other rights to publish them. Required credits and attribution will accompany the published image.

Image credits and rights records

The upload process will ask for the creator or copyright owner, the basis for using the image, source and licence details where applicable, and the public credit line. A separate private field will hold permission records or supporting information.

Alt text will be recorded separately for accessibility. Uploading an image does not automatically identify it as the author's copyright, and private permission records are not intended for public display.

A different layout or interface

If you would like a different layout or interface, we welcome a discussion about your requirements. We can assess what is possible and provide an estimate of any costs before you decide to proceed.

Custom design and development are separate from the standard free publishing package. The scope and price would be agreed before work begins.

The basis for a partnership

  • Author ownership: the platform's relationships do not transfer an author's copyright.
  • Deliberate access: collaboration does not grant access to private drafts, supporting records or personal information.
  • Separate consent: research participation, professional access, AI processing and external preservation need their own clear permissions.
  • Editorial independence: funding or technical support does not give a partner control over an author's account.
  • Continuity: proposed changes should address maintenance, exports, existing commitments and the future of hosted publications.
  • Clear responsibilities: scope, costs, permissions and accountability should be recorded before work begins.

A partnership should strengthen the person's agency over their record and help the service remain useful over time.

Once the initial publishing platform is operating, we can focus on additional components and services in response to author needs.

  • Optional writing, editing and AI assistance
  • Controlled access for an authorised editor or professional
  • PDF and other publication exports
  • Evidence Map, imaging galleries and related workflow tools
  • Research, clinical or legal collaborations where appropriate
  • Further preservation and legacy options

Evidence Map, CT Gallery and the bright-point workflow are being held for a later stage. Their migration to The Blue•Print will include preparing de-identified demonstration material before public showcasing.

Future services are not automatically included in a free package. Availability, terms and any charges will be stated before an author chooses them.

Licensing and strategic arrangements

We remain open to discussions about technology licensing, implementation support, investment, stewardship or acquisition where those arrangements support the project's purpose and continuity.

Any proposal must distinguish the platform's technology and other rights available for negotiation from the independent rights of authors and third parties. An author's story is not an asset the platform can sell merely because it hosts the publication.

A proposal should explain how author ownership, privacy, existing service commitments, exports and operational continuity would be protected. Any licensing or transfer would be limited to rights the relevant party actually holds and is authorised to grant.
