Become an author · Expanded guide
From your enquiry to your first chapter
It begins with an email conversation about what you would like to write. You can start with an idea, a few notes or an existing manuscript. You do not need an author account to make an enquiry.
Your administrator will introduce themselves and guide you through the steps. Your writing remains yours.
This guide describes the intended setup process being prepared for the registration opening date: 1 November 2026.
1. Understand your publication
Your part: tell us what you would like to write, what you hope to achieve, who you would like to reach, and what material or assistance you already have.
Our part: read your enquiry and reply with some introductory questions. An outline is enough; there is no need to provide distressing personal details.
Next: reply to the email, keeping your enquiry reference in the subject. You do not need a login yet.
2. Identify your publishing pathway
Your part: discuss the kind of publishing support that would suit your plans.
Our part: explain the available offer and any eligibility requirements. The general introductory offer includes up to five chapters free. If you selected the survivor pathway, we will discuss the Open Book Survivor offer separately.
Selecting a pathway expresses your interest. It does not by itself confirm eligibility or create an account.
Next: agree on the pathway you would like to pursue with your administrator.
3. Agree on details
Your part: discuss your working title, public author name or pen name, publishing intentions and assistance needed. Ask any questions about the offer before proceeding.
Our part: explain and record the agreed offer, scope, ownership, permissions and author control.
Next: when the details are agreed and you are ready, your administrator marks the enquiry ready for author setup.
4. Prepare your author space
Our part: create a private publication setup and send you a private invitation link. A proposed publication address is checked and assigned separately; entering a name does not reserve it.
Your part: open the invitation and choose your own password. You then sign in with the email address used for the enquiry and that password. If you already have an author account at that address, use its current password to accept another publication.
The invitation lasts 48 hours and can be used once. If it expires, ask your administrator for a replacement. Your enquiry reference is not a password, and you do not need a cPanel account.
Next: your private workspace lists the publications assigned to you.
5. Review and publish
The next stage is to prepare your chapters, preview their presentation and agree when your work is ready to publish.
Currently being built: chapter editing, preview and public publishing. The current test version provides enquiry review, private publication setup and author access. Creating an account or accepting an invitation does not publish your work.
Your administrator will explain when the writing tools are available and guide you through a first chapter.
A few useful distinctions
- An enquiry starts the conversation; it is not an author account.
- An email verification link, if supplied, confirms access to your mailbox. It is separate from the invitation to set up author access.
- A submission copy, if requested, contains the information you sent. It is not your password invitation.
- Your administrator sends the author invitation after the publishing details have been agreed.
